At Rubislaw Park Care Home in Aberdeen, there’s a very special carer who has quietly made an incredible difference for over three decades, Joan McKenzie.
Joan was nominated for a Pollard’s Promises wish by her work friend Michelle Mason, who described her as someone who not only looks after residents with compassion, but also supports colleagues and family members with unwavering kindness. In Michelle’s words:
“She always thinks of others before herself. She is a star and doesn’t even realise it.”
Joan has been part of the Rubislaw Park family for 33 years, a rare milestone that speaks volumes about her dedication, resilience, and heart. She’s the kind of person who brings calm to the toughest days and comfort to everyone around her. Her nomination wasn’t just about the time she’s given, it was about the impact she’s made.
When Joan received her surprise treat, she was genuinely overwhelmed and touched. True to her humble nature, she said:
“I’m only doing my job.”
But to everyone around her, it’s so much more than that.
Michelle shared just how much the recognition meant:
“She was delighted with her gift. As we said, she’s been here 33 years, it’s nice to be recognised. Thank you so much, it means a lot to me and her.”
At Pollard’s Promises, we believe that people like Joan, those who quietly change lives every day, deserve to feel seen, valued, and celebrated.
