At Pollard’s Promises, we know that even the smallest gesture can spark the biggest joy. This was certainly true for our latest wish recipient, Robert, a 62-year-old service user from A1 Home Care in Chelmsford.
Nominated by Nicky Cook, Registered Manager & Head of Operations at A1 Home Care, Robert stood out for his quiet resilience and kind nature. Having moved from Dagenham, Robert has faced the challenge of adapting to a new environment, something made even more difficult due to a speech difficulty that makes meeting new people stressful.
When Nicky saw our Pollard’s Promises presentation at the Essex Care Association last year, she knew she wanted to nominate someone special, and Robert was just that.
To brighten his day, we arranged a beautiful hamper full of treats and the moment Nicky delivered it, the impact was immediate.
“He was thrilled,” Nicky told us. “He kept saying, ‘Why have they chosen me!!’ Thank you so, so much. Robert also wants me to thank you.”
As Robert explored the hamper, he was overwhelmed by the abundance inside. In true selfless fashion, he asked if he could share it with someone else receiving care.
So that’s exactly what they did, half of the hamper was gifted to Helen, a 92-year-old client of A1 Home Care, spreading happiness even further.
“Thanks for making two people very happy,” Nicky added.
It’s these simple, touching moments of care and community that inspire us every day.
