Going Above and Beyond: Celebrating Karen at Lindridge Care Home
Nominated by Saskia Bahadur
Karen has been a part of the Lindridge family for over a decade. Starting as a carer, she has spent more than ten years supporting residents with compassion and love, and for the past two years, she has taken on the role of Activities Coordinator.
'I have only worked with Karen for a few months now, and there is no way I would of been able to do this job or pick it up the way I have with out her. Not only has she been a fantastic mentor in teaching me the job role, she has really taught me how to take the role to the next level, by showing me how fantastic care and extra thought/attention to detail can go along way for our residents. She is always swept off her feet and does not stop!'
Karen treats every resident as if they were her own family. She takes the time to learn about their backgrounds, hobbies, and histories. Her thoughtfulness shines through in every interaction. But her efforts go far beyond the walls of the care home. On her days off, Karen is often outshopping, not for herself, but for little treats and essentials for the residents. Toiletries, sweets, home comforts, she’s always thinking of others. She's researched magnifying desk lamps to help those residents who struggle with their eyesight and is always ensuring ways to get everyone involved one way or another.
Her creativity is unmatched. From mosaic tiling and glass painting to full-scale themed events like the recent in-home ‘Cruise Week’, Karen doesn’t just plan activities, she creates experiences. Each day of Cruise Week saw the home transformed into a different country, complete with themed food, drinks, decorations, and music. It was a truly magical experience for the residents, all thanks to Karen’s vision, dedication, and many extra hours of hard work.
Even when the home is short-staffed, Karen steps up. Whether it’s helping carers or taking time to sit one-on-one with residents who couldn’t attend group sessions, she always ensures no one is left out or overlooked.
Sometimes, I think Karen doesn’t realise how appreciated she is. She works tirelessly, often behind the scenes, and I truly hope this nomination shows her just how incredible she is, and how much we value her here at Lindridge.
To celebrate Karen we gifted her a hamper full of her favourite things!
